 Mairigan Lore: Items

While heroes act as the alter egos of the players adventuring throughout the RPN, items represent the various personal possessions needed for those heroes to survive and prosper. To keep the RPN relatively simple, the overall party (not individual heroes) possesses items in general, and either work as long as they are owned (such as a stone of regeneration) or are utilized on demand and often totally consumed and destroyed (such as a potion of healing). Simple items include:

Amethyst
A much more valuable form of quartz, amethysts are almost sparkling red in color and fetch around 100 pelders.

Caltrop
Small conglomerations of various materials (usually wood, bone or straw), these interesting devices are coated with a poison that, when thrown by its owner and contacted by another creature, causes painful wounds. Caltrops can only be used once, and cost around 75 pelders.

Diamond
The rarest and most valuable gem of all, diamonds are nearly perfect in appearance and worth an incredible 2500 pelders.

Larnett
Constructed from the sticky swampland vines of Verlar, these net-like devices can quickly constrict and entangle an opponent, trapping it and effectively paralyzing the creature for three rounds. They only work once, however, and cost around 150 pelders.

Opallic
These iridescent precious gems glow from the result of an optical effect instead of color or majika, and can fetch up to 500 pelders.

Potion of Bloodlust
Crimson red in color (and perhaps meant to look like blood), this liquid causes the consumer to become enraged and violently attack any enemies within the encounter, doing so with bonuses to hit and to damage. These potions are fairly rare and cost some 400 pelders.

Potion of Healing
Typically purple in color and smooth to the taste, potions of healing return 1-40 lost body, 1-20 lost mind and 1-10 lost spirit points to the most wounded hero in the party. Potions of healing are quite common, and cost about 75 pelders.

Potion of Invisibility
Clear but viscous, this potion renders the consumer partially invisible to all creatures within the encounter. Potions of invisibility are a bit rare, and typically cost around 400 pelders.

Potion of Knowledge
This bitter tasting potion temporarily increases the imbiber’s mind score, magically revealing all information associated with a specific lore item. Such potions are expensive, typically costing around 500 pelders.

Quartz
The least valuable of Mairigan gems, quartz come in a variety of shapes and sizes but are only worth about five pelders each.

Rope
Tightly woven fibers typically derived from the Jungles of Torment, ropes are standard party items that can be utilized in a variety of circumstances. Ropes are a bit on the expensive side, with costs upwards of 100 peld chips.

Sapphire
One of the most precious gems in all of Mairiga, most are blue and are worth an astounding 1000 pelders.

Scroll of Apocalypse
When read, this scroll calls down holy energy upon all enemies, reducing their body, mind and spirit scores by 1-25 points each. Such scrolls are rare and cost about 2000 pelders.

Scroll of Mirror Image
When this complex scroll is read, illusions of additional party members appear within the encounter to confuse the enemy. These illusions eventually wink out over time, but the added confusion helps spare party heroes a direct assault. Such scrolls are rare, and typically cost around 500 pelders.

Scroll of Protection
Upon the reading of this scroll, a magical barrier springs into existence around the adventuring party and lasts five combat rounds. Such scrolls are fairly common, and cost about 250 pelders.

Toolies
Needed by scouts to open locked doors, pick locks, and generally take apart other simple mechanical devices, these fine tool sets are usually made of silver or even petrified wood. Toolies are expensive, however, costing about 2500 pelders.

Topaz
Slightly more valuable than quartz, most topazes are blue, although some are red or yellow. Topazes are not worth very much however, rarely fetching more than 25 pelders.

Trapsnap
A fairly complicated (but non-technological) wooden device, these things are used by adventurers to harmlessly set-off simple traps. Each time a trapsnap is used, however, there is a 25% chance that it will be permanently destroyed. Trapsnaps are made entirely of wood and cost about 100 pelders.

Wand of Force
When invoked, the magic of the wand causes an impenetrable wall of force to rise before the adventuring party, absorbing all incoming blows (the wall lasts for three rounds and then collapses). This wand has a 15% chance of permanent failure when used, and is worth about 2500 pelders.

Wustdust
This odd assortment of various dusts, spores and molds can be used as an effective weapon, blinding and choking an opponent and preventing it from defending itself. These packets of dust can only be used once, and normally cost about 250 pelders.
